I have a VCMII from vxdiag, installed this software on a notebook running W7 x86, and took precautions with isolating the Notebook off my wireless network. I do think you're correct about the IDS. It's kind of pricey though. I saw it for $1500 on google shopping, but thought it used to be $1000. Have you thought about Auto Enginuity (AE) with the Ford IDS pack? That is the one I plan to get.
